All Saints Anglican Church’s Green Team, Collingwood, Ontario.

Mission Statement: “The Earth is our home and we must protect it for future generations. Our role is to highlight Environmental issues within the Church and community by sharing information, ideas, activities, and providing initiatives related to the conservation of the Earth”.

We are a self-sufficient committee whose budget is supported through individual donations and fundraising activities.

A few accomplishments achieved at All Saints Parish are:

The installation in 2012 of 44 solar panels on the roof of the Parish Hall provides power to the Grid through a 20-year government contract and provides substantial income to the church.

The building and maintenance of five Community garden plots located on adjoining Rectory property which provides produce and crops to support the 150 monthly Takeout Friendship Dinners, our weekly Coffee and Conversation Outreach group (CO3) and Community Food Banks.

The ongoing replacement of lighting within the Church using LED lightbulbs not only saves energy but significantly reduces monthly energy costs (this project is now 95% complete).

The promotion of recycling and composting throughout the Church and supported by a “No Styrofoam Policy” for parishioners and renters using Church facilities and the discouragement of the use of plastics.

Including weekly insertions in the Church bulletins which provide information relative to current Environmental issues.

Coordinating fundraising activities such as a full day Environmental Forum (2016),  an Environmental Film Night, (2019),  which highlighted local filmmaker,  Natalie Lucier’s film “For the Love of Orcas” and a speaker’s panel hosted by Dr. Stephen Scharper, University of Toronto professor and Globe and Mail columnist. These events were attended by parishioners, members of the Community and supported by multiple local Environmental groups.

Green Team members participate in events within the Church such as vegetable seed distribution to parishioners during Earth Day worship services and activities celebrating God’s Creation with our Church’s Sunday School and Youth Groups.

Respectfully submitted by Robert Wilkinson,  Green Team Committee Chairperson.
